Fatal Attraction

Fatal Attraction

Start the summer off right — in the sand box.  There’s nothing more attractive to a toddler than the sandbox, and nothing more fascinating to them than the strange feel of sand in all of its various forms — wet, dry, cold, hot, coarse and fine.

Sand is crafty too, the way it lures the toddlers into its trap with promises of exploration, adventure and new sensations, but eventually ruining their whole day.  It starts with the toes, the captivating feeling of sand running through the toes.   Once the sand has established a “beach head” in the toes, the toddler’s defenses are weakened, he’s caught off guard and the sand easily moves into the fingers.  From there, the sand starts sending out “search parties” to explore the face, hair and ears.   Wrinkles in the neck, knees, elbows and armpits are quickly filled.

Before you know it the sand has infiltrated the belly button.  At that point, all hope for a happy ending is lost.  Utter chaos ensues as the most heavily defended cracks and crevices are overrun.  The sand has reached … GULP! … where the sun don’t shine.

Thought for the Day:  Little minds are tamed and subdued by misfortune, but great minds rise above them.   Washington Irving
