Cherry County, NE

Cherry County is the largest county in Nebraska .  Covering over 6,000 square miles, this county is larger than the state of Connecticut, and has a population density of less than one person per square mile.  Bounded on the north by South Dakota’s emptiness, the other three sides are bounded by even more wide-open spaces.

I took this 10-shot panorama on an unnamed county road about ten miles southeast of Merritt Reservoir.  This is typical sand hills landscape: big sky, grass land mixed with rolling sand hills, working windmills (pumping water), very few trees, and no one in sight.

The county map showed a small town named Tiny Town in this area, right on this road, but I never found it.  I drove back and forth over the area where the town should be and never saw a trace of Tiny Town.  Must be an awfully small town.

You certainly captured the “wide open spaces” that represent this area. Thanks for the memory.
