1958 Memory

Brady, Nebraska - 1958

Brady, Nebraska – 1958

One of my favorite childhood memories is visiting my cousins in Brady, Nebraska; this picture in particular is fresh in my mind.  My uncle took my brother and I and his three sons to fish in the fore bay of the Jeffrey Lake Reservoir.  We were never allowed to go there by ourselves because  water from the fore bay was sucked down into the electric generating turbines below the dam.

Using grasshoppers for bait, my cousin Gary (tall one in the picture) and I (good-looking one in the middle) caught two whopping big carp — a thrill of a lifetime, especially for a city-kid like me.  Randy, 3 at the time, is Gary’s youngest brother.  I think of this day every time I see my grandkids  (click here) drop a line in the water.

Gary received a kidney transplant last Wednesday, and is scheduled to go home today.  I wish him well, and many more fond memories to come.

Thought for the Day:  Fishing is boring unless you catch an actual fish, then it’s disgusting.                                                                                                    Dave Barry

  1. Exploring reddit.com I noticed your site book-marked as: 1958 Memory | Larry’s Blog.
Now i’m assuming you book marked it yourself and wanted
to ask if social bookmarking gets you a bunch of site visitors?
I’ve been considering doing some bookmarking for a few of my websites but wasn’t certain if it would generate any positive results.
